Truth, Fact or Fiction?

In an effort to go to the sources and find the truths and the facts, we re-watched the Dec. 2022 Video from our leadership that was narrated by the Asst. General Manager to help encourage us to vote YES on the purchase of the Copper Health Center, along with the reasons why. Just after the 3:00 minute mark these words were spoken: "The Welcome Center was meant to be a temporary building and has several structural problems." Then around the 8:30 minute mark: "If the WC is demolished costs would be offset by expenses ...a 'net increase' is approximately $9,000."
On Dec. 12, 2022, written documents that were meant to encourage us to vote for the Copper Health purchase from the Board President showed that the cost to raze and re-build the Welcome Center would be $4.6 million (compared to a purchase of $4.5 million for the Copper Health building).
These 'Facts' that were given to us to show that they believed and were trying to sell us on the idea that the Welcome Center is structurally un-sound (contrary to the engineer's report from the year before) and that purchasing the Copper Health building would be 'affordable' and a 'minimal increase in cost' (our words) based upon the plan to demolish the Welcome Center. These facts are Facts we were told - but now, they are NOT?
Space needs were of course also a reason given. But it troubles us (and should trouble others) that there is an attempt to re-write history to minimize the push toward a YES Vote to purchase that was strongly based on a structurally 'unsound' building that needed to be torn down and we would have another building instead, (the Copper Health building). When our leaders, whom we really do want to trust, don't fess up honestly and accept full responsibility and make the 'truth finders' the bad guys...it is very sad and frustrating. And honestly, this is a big part of what creates division.
Forgetting something so important is sincerely, not believable (at least to most of us). The Nov. '21 report DID NOT find any structural problems (even though it was not a complete examination of the entire building). It specifically stated; "A visual review of the exterior building did not reveal any signs of structural issues." Also their description of the "wood trusses supported by light-gage steel stud walls" signifies that the building is highly unlikely to be constructed of 'modular units strung together' as we were led to believe. There was also no mention of modular or structural insufficiencies in the interior walls by the hired engineers. And besides, we believe that page 2 of the building's insurance statement (that leadership should be aware of) states what type of building the Welcome Center is, and it's NOT modular.
At the first special meeting held to discuss the possible purchase of the Copper Health building and after signing the purchase agreement in Nov. '22, but before the one month voting period, isn't it possible that the cry for an engineering report by a number of residents could have encouraged someone in leadership to schedule it? At least during that voting period, the facts, which weren't Facts, could have been corrected. And does it seem odd to anyone else that the NEW engineers report done in May '23 (after the voting occurred and was passed) wasn't released to the residents (did the Board Members get a copy?) It only came into the open when a concerned Resident requested a copy and made it public on social media! Was there no Chat or Committee meeting or Letter from the General Manager or Board President that couldn't have been an opportunity to share this? Is it really necessary that Residents have to sleuth out this kind of important information and then pay the price by being called 'negative' or worse?
Wouldn't it be better if our HOA leaders transparently shared these type of facts themselves? But then, the same thing happened with the Liquor License - not until someone reported us to the Liquor Board did the 'problem facts' get corrected. All this despite genuine efforts by ourselves for at least (3) months through meetings, emails and phone calls directly with those in charge, made no impact. Then sadly, we were admonished and called 'troublemakers' for trying to be helpful in presenting the Facts.
Shouldn't those who run our Association take note of such basic and important things prior to being influencers...or at a minimum do their due diligence with homework to determine the facts before something this big, like a $4.5 million (Copper Health / Welcome Center / Artisan Center) decision with improvements, maintenance, relocations and renovations that could take us into the $9 to $12 million dollar zone? We deserved to know the real Facts at the time. And in all fairness to all, don't we deserve now to have a New Vote with ALL the REAL FACTS on the table?
